If you have worked with me or anyone on the Chicago Home Collective team, you know that supporting our local community is one of our fundamental values.
Whether it is volunteering, donating resources to neighborhood organizations or simply shopping local, I truly believe that being engaged with and giving back to the community around you is part of what makes a house a HOME. It’s this very belief that inspired me to create MY COLORFUL COMMUNITY: A free coloring book for families that supports our local community!
I wanted to create a project that connected families with amazing local businesses as well as a very special non-profit, The Honeycomb Project, which is working wonders in our Logan Square community and across Chicagoland! The Honeycomb Project inspires and mobilizes residents to build stronger communities through family-focused volunteering opportunities.
The first release is the Logan Square edition as I am resident and mom here. This edition includes Mini Mott, Bang Band Pie, Big City Readers, Pretty Cool Ice Cream, Fleur, *Play Logan Square, Logan Theatre, the Logan Square Monument, and the 606 Chicago Trail, and is illustrated by the incredibly talented Katie Napoli.
I truly hope this book inspires you to shop local, connect with your neighbors, smile at strangers, and join in on the next Honeycomb Project event!
What started as a small idea to create a coloring book of local landmarks grew into this amazing community collaboration. I loved creating this book so much that I plan to do a Spring/ Summer 2019 edition for Logan Square, as well as other neighborhoods. If you’re a business or a non-profit that would like to participate, please reach out to be included in my next book.
